SD has been held eight times in its birthplace, the United States. Since 2019, SD U.S. has initiated the design challenge, which is held once a year. In April this year, the 2020 SD U.S. design challenge was successfully held online, eight-two teams were participating in it. Among them, the Southeast University team recommended by SD China won the second-place in the Attached Housing Division.

SD美国建造挑战赛继续沿袭两年一届的传统，原定于今年6月举办的竞赛将推迟至明年4月，与设计挑战赛同时举行，举办地点为科罗拉多州的能源部国家可再生能源实验室（NREL）。SD美国近期同时宣布了2023年建筑挑战赛的相关信息，最大的改变为参赛作品将在各地作为永久建筑建造，不再需要运输到统一比赛场地，必须由美国大学主导在美国进行建造的房子才具备参与资格。

The SD U.S. build challenge continues the tradition of being held once every two years. They postponed its 2020 SD Build Challenge from June 2020 to April2021, it will coincide with the SD 2021 Design Challenge. The venue will be the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratoryin Golden, Colorado. SD U.S. recently announced the related information of its 2023 build challenge, the biggest change is that competition prototypes will be built as permanent buildings all over the country, and there will be no need to transport these houses to the venue, and only houses built in the United States led by American universities are eligible to participate.
